I work as a media producer (often on challenging academic research projects), and bring Richard Gott in as the first-choice sound recordist every time. Using a professional sound recordist means that more ambitious and dynamic filming can be accomplished, and the quality of Richard's sound is always top-notch. Of equal importance to me, Richard is deeply respectful of contributors, and able to interact effortlessly with people from all walks of life. He has the perfect intuition for when to be sociable, to put people at ease, but also for when to step back and have minimal presence. He brings to each job a thoughtfulness in the preparation stage: how the sound will be covered for each specific set-up and the equipment required. He has very good kit of his own, and on complex set-ups has gone the extra mile to help us source any equipment we have needed to hire in. On set he is very comfortable and professional with talent and other crew members, he is quick to find solutions under pressure and, crucially, captures excellent quality sound.
